Japs make such simple and spiritually pure movies, honestly portraying the tragedy of life, but when Westerners try they just become neurotic and decadent, like Winter Light or Au hasard Balthazar, and obviously the product of pseudointellectuals confusing their own nervous anxiety and its imaginings with the real suffering of life.
