I think plenty of people like them, I for one think they're really cool.
But as it is they aren't really more than space brain-parasites so there's not really much to discuss about them that isn't a permanent hypothetical, sadly.
One angle that Dark Samus could have played out is if she tried to replicate the conditions that brought forth the Ing in order to get them as an army.
Even though the Phazon arc itself played this card, nuking a planet with an asteroid in order to split it into another dimension is still hardcore.
