I kinda hate how far Dread swung in the other direction. She's just a generic badass space marine now. She doesn't have a single subdued or introspective moment, like her sparing the baby Metroid or saving the animals. Even with Quiet Robe it's another "badass" moment where she says she's gonna get the job done, and when he dies the game instantly moves on. Samus is a seasoned bounty hunter, but she also has a sensitive side. Other M focused too much on the latter, while Dread only has the former.

By the time the Metroidvania phenomenon took off (late 00's), Mega Man was basically dead. Last classic game had been a decade ago, X series was finished, and there were some spinoffs straggling along. Around that time was the whole indie and retro revival boom, so they were concerned with MM 9 & 10. It kinda just passed them by. If you want a crazy gimmick, maybe two playable characters (Samus, and Sylux?), and the map is laid out a little differently, depending on who you pick. I'm sure Metroidvanias have done that shit before.

They should go above and beyond on bossfights and really elevate them to Treasure tier action set-pieces, and the final phase of the game should be gaining full freedom of movement, and basically turning into a shmup. That'd be cool.

It speaks to how the games are designed that Metroid has never had any "alternative" playable characters. I think that every single Castlevania in that style has had at least one outside of Circle (which just had alternative playstyles instead). I'm just not sure that Metroid is built for the kind of thing, even CV often has to cheat in a couple moves for the alt characters so that they can actually explore properly. Metroid is too intentionally designed for each ability with its passages and secrets, I think it'd need to be completely overhauled for another character.
The only game that could've gotten away with it is Fusion funny enough, if they let you play as a rogue SA-X or something and cut out the info rooms.

This would be great if you progress through the game as both of them and the actions of one affect the other.
It would be interesting to have optional things that you can do as Sylux that would obstruct Samus's play, next to stuff like needing both to complete puzzles, like releasing monsters in a room that would otherwise not have them.
Next to the collection clear score you'd have something like a clear score for Sylux for how many things you had Sylux do to block Samus' progress as an incentive.

I was trying out Prime 1 (GC Ver.) for the first time, and sincerely, I think the 4:3 might add to the experience. I tried the 16:9 patch, and it didn't feel as immersive to me. Controversial take but I recommend you at least try the games in release order. Metroid 1 and 2 show their age in regards to controls and lack of signposting but they're fun and provide a different feeling than the later games. If you don't care for them, stop playing and move onto the next; both games have remakes in the style of later Metroid games. Super Metroid, the third game, is the game that solidified the Metroid formula, so you'll either like that one or the series as a whole just doesn't jive with you.

There are five main metroid games, with the first two being remade through Zero Mission and Samus Returns respectively, and those tell the complete core story. There's also the Metroid Prime games, first person shooters set between Metroid 1 and 2; they're not "canon" in the sense that the main games don't acknowledge them, but they work fine in their own context and are quite good so you can think of them as an alternate timeline.

Also at some point, after checking out the 2D games I mentioned, look up the fanmade game AM2R, which remakes Metroid 2 just like Samus Returns and has a very different feeling to Samus Returns (essentially being "Zero Mission 2"). It's on par with the official games in quality.

There's something of a suggestion that if Mawkin DNA can exert control over the Metroids, then it might have been able to combat the X-parasite that took over his remains.

X-parasites do everything in their power to maximise their survival, and have demonstrated attacking their only predators, the Metroids.
The recently "revived" Quiet Robe is seen reactivating the E.M.M.I. robots, and it's questionable if this is the X-parasite aiming to eliminate the hunter, or Quiet Robe taking a gambit with Samus recovering abilities by defeating them.

Quiet Robe X getting willingly absorbed by Samus at the end is also at odds between the parasite and the chozo.
The X-parasite may've known that Samus would lose her Metroid Suit and therefore become less of a threat, therefore increasing their survival odds, but the more logical action would've been to sneak aboard the ship and remain undetected until Samus returns to another planet.
The most likely influence is that Quiet Robe wanted to impart more Mawkin genes to help keep her Metroid genetics under control.
If you consider that possibility though, it would mean that Samus has been absorbing the genes of countless fauna from X-hosts.

Also whilst grabbing this image of the SA-X attacking the Metroids in the BSL restricted lab, it occurred to me that this thing ain't using the ice beam on them. Was it too focused on just destroying the facility from the inside?

I've thought about it, and I really feel like Sylux may not be THE main villain the whole time. It's mainly just a hunch based on how Tanabe has talked about his plans with him before as well as my personal guess that their transportation to Viewros was an accident and not him pulling some 4D chess to get hit on purpose.
I think he may end up teaming up with Samus due to a common goal of wanting to get off the planet and being a temporary ally feels like the best way for them to delve into his backstory and motivations. He's a very unique entity for the Metroid franchise as he's not a giant alien monster, an evil clone, or a giant supervillain bird. He's an equal to Samus who's blatantly weaker than her and I think there's a lot of interesting room to explore a character like that in this series.

Particularly if it has to be a campaign where Samus logically cannot discover any Chozo artifacts, and there's no "authorisation" bullshit. The alternative to that would be her suit was compromised and she gradually has to undo the locks on her powers, like if it was hacked or something.
The idea of characters getting no upgrades from certain bosses though would probably make progression difficult to figure out, so you could have bosses that mix biological and mechanical components like that B.O.X. Security robot.
