Men shouldn't be proposing until AT LEAST the 5 year mark. There's far too much risk in getting married these days and women can easily fake attraction/obedience for a year or two if they know it will secure them a financial benefactor for years to come. Even if they aren't playing pretend, it can just be that they start feeling worn out/tired of the relationship, if that's the case, the two year mark is usually where it will start showing. By 5 years you'll have truly seen if you two are actually compatible and can make an informed decision about whether you should be together forever or not.
