You can tell grey horses have white markings by shaving the usual areas and checking if there's pink or black skin underneath.

If there's black skin, no white markings. If there's pink skin, there's white markings.

I'm cheating by showing a grey (or """white""" horse to normies) draft horse with a dapple grey pattern since it's much easier to see. This one at least as a snip on its nose.

Most "grey" horses also white out around 10 or so years, with plenty of examples of greying out completely when younger or older. If you see a grey horse that is completely grey'd out, it's probably more then 10 years old.
