Everyone knows Dave won where it counts. Cool points are worth more than ratings. Dave banged interns and didn't get divorced or canceled over it. He took on vapid Hollywood and made a mockery of it. Julia Roberts was in love with him. He always ripped Bill O'Reilly a new asshole and yet Bill always returned. Dave was the classy elder statesman of late night and everyone will always respect him more. The history books... lol. Dave's 9/11 speech will put him ahead of Jay if you want to really look at that side of it. Everyone knows Dave was the hipper, smarter choice. Even those who didn't watch him. If you're proud to be in the lowest common denominator audience who champions mediocrity and loved those Judge Ito and John Wayne Bobbitt jokes, Leno is your man. But if you really know anything you know that Leno is an AMAZING standup comedian and he denied America his real talent. He dumbed himself down. All the comics will tell you he was a genius in the 80s UNTIL he got on TV. Then he was a shrewd business man and he knew exactly how to speak to middle America, and he did. The corn belt didn't like Conan and Dave and Seinfeld and all that clever humor. They like simple. That's okay, but don't pretend the majority is intellectually superior or cooler. We all know that's bullshit. It's almost impossible to be super popular AND cool at the same time.
