Touhou has been going downhill in recent entries. The series has had bumps along the road before but the last Touhou game I liked was 17 (and I'm biased because it had Youmu with her TH13 shottype, one of my all-time favorites in the series, so I was inevitably going to like it). 18 was messy with the card shit, 19 was terrible to the point of feeling unfinished, and 20's demo was one of the worst times I've had playing Touhou because of how absurdly disruptive and uncontrollable the Wonder Stones are. If ZUN doesn't have any motivation left then I would probably be fine if he stopped making the games himself and oversaw their creation by other developers. It's not like Touhou is going to die, the fandom will be here at the heat death of the universe, far outliving any FotM slop that overtakes it in popularity for a couple years. There will be plenty of fangames, doujin et al for decades to come.
