See, this right here is where I've always thought they could've handled the final story stretch quite differently, and had their cake and eat it too

>keep Steven as champion
>credits happen
>start at player's home like usual but while Norman greets you he has some more news to give you than just the ship ticket
>after being beaten, Steven had a Red moment and decided to fuck off to get stronger
>the league is unavailable for access momentarily at this point
>Norman suggests you to catch up with the leaders, this is where the game shows you that leader rematches are now a thing
>get to Sootopolis to talk with Wallace, only for the player to meet up with Juan instead, and a battle against the trainer who bested his former student ensues
>after defeating him, Wallace comes into the gym and lets you know that he's taking the responsibility of being the Champion now, letting you know where to go if you want a rematch
>the rest of the post game is the same as usual
