The thing is, most people are more of a mix of the feminine/masculine than they might like to acknowledge/admit.
But people with prominent opposite gender traits who aren't integrating with themselves/society may see others who find themselves through transitioning, and then try to do the same - even though their real selves and their real peace is probably more in the middle

In the end, as with everybody and every problem, it's not about copying others to find your truth. But as social animals with extremely complex and chaotic and easily damaged psyches, it can be hard to get away from looking for answers in others.
