I just steal the Thrawn trilogy, rework a few plot lines to fit in with the prequels, have the OT characters in the place of the major players in the books, then have the next generation play the roles the OT crew did.

Luke is the only wasp in the jam since he doesn't have a counterpart, so I'd have him be busy wiping out the failed jedi clones that Thrawn releases from Mt Tantis as a distraction, then have him swoop in to save the day when necessary to show Thrawn doesn't grasp the true scale of the force.
