Second: Depends entirely on what you're looking for. Personally, I'd sign up for Steam (fourth poster sent the signup link) and trawl around for demos and free single-player games. Don't just grab 'anything'- grab stuff that actually sticks out to you.

Like a demo? Consider paying for the game. You'll get a couple hours of in-game time before you can't refund it, in the event that it just doesn't work for you.
