Star Wars was never really sci-fi. Lucas always called it more fantasy than sci-fi. A lot of Star Wars was also just WW2 in space. The entire Death Star trench run was just a shot by shot copy of The Dam Busters, which is why Luke's proton torpedoes also suddenly go 90 degrees down when they enter the exhaust port, because it's a reference to the bombs that they used in that movie to blow up a dam. But I am sure there are 350 books and comic books retroactively explaining why that happened. The point is, of million of things to righteously criticize in the ST/TLJ, Star Wars fans always choose the most nothing burger things for some reason.
