Without a player, the game is nothing. The game cannot play itself and what is percieved as art is the players doing, not the creator.
The less control given to the player, the worse the game usually is for it.

At The Drive In actually scored their record deal because the band played all out to an empty venue in LA and the only person who stopped by the bar for a drink was impressed that som band would go so crazy on stage playing for essentially no one put the bar staff.

With a game, the art does not come from the designers, it comes from the player projecting onto the product, making the player the artist.
The player is not an artist, they are the player.
