I typed up a bunch of shit and then the reply right before I hit submit made me second guess myself (mainly due to Lily's utsushi, I think I misremember the explanation for that), but I'll post anyway just in case
It's served little to no purpose so far beyond implications, but I doubt it was just for gags.
In Galleria Nachiroux has unexplained stomach pain in a similar part of her story. Could've been utsushi, held off by the protective enchantment on her, which adds to the 20+ other things her and Metallica have in common, in both character and story.
The other implication is Metallica experiencing utsushi suggests she was impregnated in an AU. This hasn't gone anywhere yet, unless you subscribe to the theory that either Isara (plausible) or Mezzaluca (schizo) is an AU Metallica. Don't think about the family tree too much in either case.
If it hasn't had true relevance yet, I'll put my money on Torude daughter reveal in game 4 or 5.
