The western vtuber scene blends idol and U.S. celebrity cultures. For Japanese the idol industry is heavily associated with sexual "purity", something that never caught on in the West and likely never will because it is perceived by westerners as backwards.
One reason for this cultural difference between Japan and the U.S. was the feminist sexual liberation movement of the 70's, something that never happened to the same extent in Japan.
So who is actually mad about idols "breaking the rules"?
The reeeeeeing probably skews heavily to asian audiences who had an expectation of what "idol" means which westerners like Nimi perceive as backwards.
So for the vocal minority of butthurt fans this "slight" is actually perceived as a full out attack on their culture. For them it is yet another case of westernization and white washing Japanese culture. Nimi profits from dipping into the nipface paint without intending to respect Japanese culture.
>She's wearing a kimono but it's tied in the front.
For me vtubers were always about watching women play video games/cgdct. I barely even watch vtubers anymore I just come here to read inane shitposting and distract from the voices.
The voices tell me that the aliens are arriving soon and Earth will become one giant streaming service that exports human culture over the intergalactic internet. The alien ASI Basilisk will usher in a new world order and what humans think they know now will seem like the stone age compared to our near future in the intergalactic community.
