I would say the general theme of Thor as a character is the nature of how gods are worshiped, and how in-truth gods reflect what mortals themselves can achieve at their best, not what mortals are incapable of. Thor loves Earth because it's where the value in living and connecting with your fellow man is most exemplified. All time is fleeting, therefore all life has value.
