I've had recent success on the sharpmaker using the jdavis882 method in the second video. You hold it on the stone and go up and down. You just have to remember to do it equally on the other side because it will form a burr like a regular sharpening stone. I find it easier to keep the angle using this method. The edge comes out even, looking like a factory edge.
