Subtitles seem to get worse and worse with every season. Before, it was just generally poor translations from official simulcasts. Then it was MTL for a lot of series, such as Blue Archive and Girls Band Cry. Now we have AI with no quality control; it doesn't even require a translation, just someone to read over the finished script and clean it up, but we don't even get that much.
So my question is, why is fansubbing dead? It's not completely dead but compared to before the rise of simulcasts, it might as well be. There's a few groups still subbing series and a lot of them well after the fact but why not as a show is released anymore? Once in a while, an anon will sub something (U149, for example) but it's plain to see that anyone with a grasp of English and a minimal understanding of Japanese would do better than most simulcast anime. So why don't anons sub anime? They already scanlate a lot of manga.
