The only worthwhile chapters from that anthology sequel are the first and last, and there's half a good scene in Judgement, but it's mostly dumb.
Yeah, I can't imagine a real sequel could be good. Even Skyla was a huge 180 from the series' trend (in the right direction, the powerlevel reset was necessary) and it was still full of issues.
What even happened to the whole idea that Equestria prime was locked down? They're opening portals back pretty easily, and even leaving behind a whole manufacturing pipeline to make more and extract nearly all remaining unicorns from that AU. There was also stuff like Twilight's healing factor randomly changing from chapter to chapter, etc.
The Skyla fic was best when it was Twilight and her favorite noodle. It really turned Ao into an excellent character and I really enjoyed how much history the story put into their friendship. Flurry and her crew only needed to be not bad, and they were not bad, so the fic was OK.
The setup for the next story is Half-Life 3 levels of raising the stakes and scope. Kinda hard to imagine it being the pirate adventures kino that the previous stories all are good at. Twilight's duel with herself was good, but that kind of thing is a lot harder to do well, and it would be especially harder to do tons more of that well. I already didn't particularly like that one instance of AU Ponicemare Twilight showing up to enforce the game rules if that's an indication of how the "Brights" are going to act.
