>putting more tadpoles in your brain
That's not how it works, but don't feel stupid, I thought the same thing (the visual when unlocking powers doesn't help). You are literally empowering the single tadpole in your head by psychically assimilating another tadpole. That's why the tadpoles you're given by Absolutists is in an opaque canister, so they can't see the tadpole, they believe they're literally absorbing divine essence.
>getting better at psionics which clearly means that you're becoming an illithid
Githyanki use psionics. Ghaik are psychic.
Getting "better" doesn't prove anything. But I'll help you make your point: the image of an illithid appears above you when you prime yourself to use an active power.
>possibly lead to something bad?
I already answered. There is nothing worse than ceremorphosis, something that should have happened to you long before you make any significant progress, and the tadpole doesn't need any empowering to do that, on top of being impossible to remove. The same person protecting you also advises you to empower the tadpole.
It is ambiguous how the tadpole will affect you in the long run, as the Dream Visitor's choice of words and tone is suspicious, but to what end?
