Hey can someone please clarify for a retard, do Hexblade builds suck in Honor Ruleset? I never really payed attention to the "turn economy" changes and just used it for the boss abilities. Now I'm not trying to be a huge metaslave, I respecced Shart to Hexblade after killing Aylin because it felt thematic and I hadn't tried out the Shadowblade build yet. But currently (1 fighter 9 Warlock) it feels worse than TB Shadowmonk.

I like bg3's version of it, because most other games just crank up the difficulty and turn off saving/loading, and delete the save if you die, but bg3 actually added new mechanics. New gameplay depending on difficulty is not common.

The fact that this one poses as a friend of a victim of the cult that was kidnapped, brainwashed and tortured for decades while the victims parents were made to watch all that only enforces his duplicitous. dishonest and disgusting nature. Death is literally too good for nocturne.

My point is that the system would work better if you somehow needed the powers to achieve certain goals or to deal with certain threats and the drawbacks were actually real. I can't help but imagine a game were gold and supplies actually mattered and every failure would be a setback that would cost you resources. Seeing your resources dwindle and steadily approaching a true fail state would make the tadpoles an appealing option in order to survive despite whatever dangers it may hide. Now it's like optional system that you only invest points into if you want to become even more powerful that you already are.

The ghaik has nothing but glowing praise for the benefits of "evolving", and even tries to force the astral tadpole on you. But it never manipulates you to become full illithid, nor does it "pull your strings". It genuinely wishes to save Faerun, but it has to guard some information from you considering how illithids are viewed across all planes. The Elder Brain even tells you, in no mixed words, that she anticipated the Emperor's exact moves, to recruit adventurers to save the realm.
The Emperor, if it were possible, likely would have allowed you to undergo ceremorphosis, if it felt itself and a group of newborn mind flayers could destroy the Elder Brain. But even in that situation, there's no accounting for being discovered by people from the Emerland Grove, the goblin camp, Last Light, Moonrise Towers, Rivington, and Baldur's Gate. Without the guise of mortals, that's just a marathon of hurdles to exhaust you before making it to the Elder Brain.

It's one of the legitimate criticisms you can raise - the game is simply afraid of holding the player accountable for their poor decisions.
