They've had their down periods but the real problem is that the landscape of college football is fundamentally changing. Will they adapt? No doubt they will try but they can end up being the next Nebraska as the wealth of the fan base becomes increasingly important. The loyalty and dedication of the fans only matters to the degree that they're able to financially support the program going forward. Obviously money isn't the only factor but it is an increasingly major factor.
