>specifically the 59 series which in turn was inspired by the hi-power
I'll try to straighten it out a little bit.

>S&W M39
Inspired by the Walther P38/P1 and the 1911, uses the same kind of DA/SA trigger as the P38, and then also a lighter alloy frame like the P1, so as to give something like the 1911 but lighter and combined with the quicker readiness of a DA/SA trigger.
It was basically exactly what the Army was looking for in a new service pistol, but then it was decided that the 1911 was perfectly good and that they weren't going to spend money on new pistols.

>Mk.22 Mod. 0 "Hushpuppy"
Special variant of the M39 for the Navy Seals, has a slide lock for quiet use with the suppressor, and a special frame using the Browning Hi-Power's 13rd magazines.

>S&W M59
Inspired by the Hushpuppy, a further development of the M39 using its own 14rd magazines.
The 459 is a variant of the M59.

>S&W 5906, 5904, etc
Further iterations and improvements.

>Daewoo DP51
Licensed derivative of the 59 and 5906 made in South Korea.
Has this oddball 'triple-action' trigger which I'm too tired to go into detail on.

>Lionheart LH9
Further development on the DP51 made in America.
