Nobody appreciates this mate here. He was a badass. He refused Dave Jone's offer and went down like a dog, yes, but the point is that he said no and probably passed on to a better place instead of becoming a cursed pirate who is afraid of the judgement day. An by the way, this is one of the many reasons of the why this trilogy is so good. No way Disney would show a guy's troat being cut nowadays. Everything is too safe and sanitized and they take its colour away, they make it lifeless, without light. I have my personal theory that we are indeed very close to something bug and this corporations need to make the world more dark in order for those things to manifest. Darkness hate the light so the world must be involved in darkness if darkness wants to feel good to walk on this Earth.
