Ground is actually one of the weakest types in terms of base power now. Earthquake's paltry base 100 and Earth Power's 90 puts it well below most other types. The only types with a lower upper limit are Dark, Psychic, Ghost (on the special side), Steel, Fairy, and Poison.

Dragon, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Bug, Flying, Normal, Rock, and Fighting all hit harder.
