If I wanted to make sense of it, it would go something like this: Demogorgon had to be killed from within. First with Democrawler, who is somehow connected to Demogorgon, and then from within Spire 4's own barriers. You couldn't attack from outside the barrier. The shields on the dropships work. They stop the incoming missiles. They just don't protect enough of the ships to clear the threshold unscathed. In contrast, the barrier around Spire 4 is massive. Its size may also be indicative of its strength as well. But that scene does make a single Andro-Eidos seem very OP.
There is one other thing. The railgun isn't exactly regular issue. EVE's drone gun is a modification of Adam's drone. It's a combination of Lily's know-how and Adam's tech. It may not have been something Mother Sphere had access to.

Yea, I seem to find more and more as time goes on. They also seem kind of smart. It feels like there was a lot of effort put into things very few people would immediately notice. You'd have to really want to find them, which means they implemented them in a way that would've required a clever and thoughtful approach. But maybe I'm just a bit infatuated with the game.
