>but metal and every style of metal is recognizable as such because it's specifically *something* in particular as distinct from other things
Metal in its current state could easily be dismissed as just a subgenre of rock, genres are nothing more than perceptions along a gradient that arbitrarily begins and ends according to mere whims.
>academia was insisting that serialism was the only future for classical music and it raped creativity for decades
Who is this "academia"? A group of people? Did they put a gun to all the musicians and composers? Are you attempting to proclaim there was nothing else but serialism for all of the 20th century? No of course not, you are simply crafting an imaginary narrative that you read elsewhere. The "academia" were the composers themselves, and anyone had a choice to use serialism or not to.

Oh, but I'm sure whats next will be stating about the zeitgeist, or perception that only serialism was the future - the cultural stranglehold that was no different than the forms that Baroque and classical had to conform to - no different than the creative stifling that people put on metal having to be a certain way that conforms to the perceptions of a genre.

The problem is that the humonculi that make up this shitty board can't seem to realize that the social constructs of genre and reality itself are not static, but ever shifting and warping in unending change and motion. "METAL IS THIS", "NO IT IS THAT", yet the so called "metal" would not even exist if these losers were in charge, for we would be stuck with "THIS IS ROCK" forever, instead of the gradual shift to metal over time.

>minimalism, neomodality, neoclassicism
Complete garbage, worse than anything Schoenberg and his crew made.
