Trying to reduce the machine gun units DPS without just numerically gutting their scaling, recalled an idea I had a in the early stages, of making those attack spray. Prototype
>random deviation from target position
>more deviation possible if the target is further away
>impacts deviate roughly left/right from the target
>can hit different nearby units if they don’t hit the target
>larger units logically eat more hits
Looks kinda workable, just wish I had a good sprite effect for a bullet missing and hitting the ground.
I was also thinking of making a more real "hitscan" spray, where bullets would fly in trajectories. It could look kinda cool, and for the unit in the webm for example it would make sense if it can only hit enemies in the first row. But some of the other MG units are larger and shoot more from above (MG mounted on a pickup), so this prototype impl would suit them fine.
