You have two options when it comes to disabilities in games, and they're both inherently tied into character design having some kind of meaning. Ideally you should do both at once.
>Make it look cool
>Make it a gameplay mechanic
The latter is easily accomplished through shit like cybernetics, I admittedly have a weakness for robot arms with built-in weapons but it's an easy way to give the character extra mechanics. Legs, likewise, open up movement options depending on what you pick. Even a wheelchair can be used for interesting shit in a platformer; Sly 3 pulled it off.
The former is about style; floating purple wheelchair looks retarded. It should at least be something more imposing like a throne if it doesn't actually need to go over the ground. Alternatively you could permanently affix him to some kind of animal companion he has to ride, give him mechanical spider legs, give him tank treads, some kind of magitech exoskeleton to move his legs, or simply have him so hopped up on magical power he's constantly floating. All of these would look cooler than what they actually went with, and I came up with them in a few minutes, and I'm some retard on a Mongolian basket weaving forum.
