To me, the Knight (and his co-conspirators, which might include Gaster) are trying to derail the Prophecy using Shadow Crystals.

Their interference is getting more brazen and direct with each chapter. Next chapter's boss is clearly Asgore, and the Gerson's book is based on the Prophecy. "The vast garden is charred in an inferno of jealous." What is more brazen than offering a Shadow Crystal to a very important character? Outright forcing one into one. Asgore will go schizo, and not by choice. Mark my words.
