Hey I just want you to know that there are more MRI machines in the US state of Vermont than in the entirety of Canada. And that's just MRI in general. If you need the newest, bleeding edge functional MRI tech, you had better be in the US too, since Vermont also has more medical cyclotrons for making the isotopes you need.

I doubt most people buying Lexus are buying for the clout. If they're anything like my parents, they're buying it because they want a nice car to buy as they enter retirement that will be enjoyable (read, not sporty, just quiet and easy going) and hassle free. Just because these buyers could afford to drive a Merc E wagon, and have anything wrong covered under warranty, doesn't mean that they want to fool with it, and many are old enough to have deep rooted hatred for some makes. Additionally, if they are retiring, they probably want to buy it outright and reduce their obligations once their income shrinks, so they are often looking to take the Lexus to the grave instead of trade up in 3 years.

What this board misses a lot (due to skewing young and carless) is that for the vast majority of people, cars are purely functional items that occasionally signal lifestyle aspirations. A means to get you from one place where life happens to another place where life happens. People here love to use 'boring' as the absolute worst thing a car can be, but for most people cars are only 'exciting' when they're causing problems. And the older I get the more I get that. I've got a job and a family now. There just aren't enough hours in the day to fuck around with project cars I don't really care about. I just cannot justify having my family driving a car where I'm constantly worried its going to strand them while running errands.
