>splits off shard because he knows he'll be mortally wounded and put on the throne
>by being put on the throne in this state he saw the future of 40k
>knows over 10,000 years being worshiped as a god he'll slowly become more powerful
>in the event he actually tries to get up he knows he'll 100% try that dark king shit again
>makes the grey knights promise to keep him from doing it
>the part trapped on the throne gets to be the unconscious power that the star child can siphon from when that shard fully awakens and becomes the actual reincarnation of the emperor
>if his old body tries it, it WILL become the dark king instead and fuck up all his plans and start the cycle of ruin, creation, and chaos all over again
