I never jived with most basic yes/no good/bad gm emulators for most things. Ive found it much more intuitive to think in terms of more/less likely. come up with the most likely event and the more extreme the roll, the further the event breaks from that expected event. When I gm for others, I dont try to think what is good/bad for a character, but what is a believable outcome as an arbitrator. Unlikely events are the little exceptions that spice up the rule, the natural 20 for seeing a gold bulion in a bank already robbed clean, a dragon comming out of nowhere breaking the boat you are on in two.
I do this: d12
1-6 most likely event
7-10 unexpected, but understandable event
11-12 totally unexpected event
12+ second roll of a 7+ (1 in 24 chance) completely out of left field thing happens.
