>You take on the role of a Ranger, a protector of the mountain valley you call home: a vast wilderness transformed by monumental feats of science and technology devised to save the Earth from destruction long ago. ah too bad the concept doesn't appeal to me
bgg says it's best for 2 players
>>95970937That's not really fair, earthborne has the advantage of all those components/cards, while barbarian can be played with a pdf and a single sheet.
Also it's literally from last century, so it holds up pretty well considering

T.Q: my PC was crushed by one of those falling ceiling traps. Fell for the oldest trick in the dungeon.
>>95970244 (OP)>What was your latest character death like?I was playing a Level 3 thief in an OSR game. My character had heard that there was some treasure to be found in a nearby crypt. He managed to get to the crypt itself, but he found that the entrance of the place was being used as a camp by bandits.
I thought I'd be able to infiltrate the place, but once I got in and killed a couple dudes I was in too deep and failed a couple stealth checks. immediately got surrounded by bandits and got stabbed and shot on the way out.

Has anyone here played Nechronica, Golden Sky Stories, or MAID RPG Solo? How did it go, what kind of things did you tack on to make it more fun solo? I always struggle roleplaying social games even though I seem drawn to them at first glance.
Speaking of, are there any Japanese Solo RPG's?
>>95973654I tried Golden Sky Stories and it didn't really go over well. The game's reliance on other players is a bit too heavy, in my opinion. Most of the game seems like it's social interaction and discussing how to overcome situations. You could run something like that solo, but it would require a whole lot of simulating dialogue and character interactions, which is definitely possible, but too much work.
However, a long time ago I rain "MAID" solo, and that went really well. I used "Player emulation" which is the opposite of GM emulation. I generated seeral "Players" and gave each of them personalities, desires, and motives, then I gave each of them a character. It basically played like a slice of life anime. Each session was a different challenge I would give to them, and they'd each try to do the task in a way that best suited me. Good shit.
May I ask, if anyone knows, what games have a slice of life side? I'm interested in that.
>>95973764I figured with Golden Sky Stories. I feel like without true conflict in mechanical/gamey terms - it's hard stay focused playing solo. I need dopamine to bring me back to what I'm doing. I like the cute animals though.
I kind of want to do what you did with MAID with Nechronica and have it be less slice of life and more survival.

Barbarian Prince, Cal and his people won the battle, the changes I introduced made the fighting more entertaining (for me at least). They obtained good loot and Cal reached 409 to his funds, he is closer to his goal. But still far from reaching Castle Drogat. Currently, they are exploring some ruins, we shall see what secrets they unearth.

I still think the moment I'm most proud of in my run through was Cal finding the Dawnsword, I swapped out broken box for ancient tomb and did an entire bit on it.
It's the exact same item mechanically, but 'I found a blade carved from the bones of the oldest enemies of mankind, plunged deep into the skull of a long dead and long frozen Devil-snake' fucks harder than 'Magic sword in a broken box my dude'

Sandra Steelflame
the Golden Goddess
Sandra Steelflame, once the noble Lady Lyssandra Wavecrest, has cast aside her fine dresses and glittering jewellery for a life of adventure and love as the wife of Garran Steelflame. Her curvaceous, devastatingly beautiful body remains a vision of allure, with golden bronze skin that shimmers under the sun, amber brown eyes alight with determination, and long silver hair flowing like a river down her back. Her Full, heavy and heaving breasts with dark nipples and areolae draw Her husbands hands. Thick heart-shaped luscious lips kiss him or pleasure him, ever eager to be with him. Wide hips, and plush full rear draw his hands and displays her sex, framed by her wide set thighs, with its silver haired mound concealing her dark lips and red-pink insides.
She now wears bold new attire: tight black leather breeches that cling to her curves, a light blue cotton blouse that softens her warrior’s edge, and a bulging breastplate to fit her prodigious breasts, paired with an open sallet helm to protect her head. Her hands are protected by soft kid leather tan gloves, and her feet by soft tan kid leather boots. Though she is new to the arming sword belted at her waist and the round wooden shield she carries, her eagerness to learn under Garran’s patient guidance shines through, even if her confidence is still budding.
Adorning her neck is a snug black and red leather stock lined with brown fur, its silver-set tiger eye gem gleaming at her throat, framed by silver-set sapphires—a symbol of her unbreakable bond with Garran. Over this rests her silver and gold torc, her marriage band, with bear’s head ends nestled just beneath the stock’s sapphires, marking her joyful transition to Mrs. Sandra Steelflame. No longer the entitled noblewoman of her past, she revels in her new role, her heart set on becoming a mother and building a family with the man she adores. Her love for Garran is palpable, her giggles of glee ringing out whenever he digs his hands into her hips and rear, their playful affection a constant dance of devotion. Sandra’s journey from noble constraints to warrior’s wife is etched in every step, her beauty matched only by the strength and passion she now embodies.

Prepping for a couple of solo campaigns but I'm not sure which to run first
>Wars of the Central Powers, a horse and musket game focused around cascading alliances and major political moves, with massed battles between large armies and naval races. The fate of kin
Nations are decided
>A sci-fi game focused around a squad of UNITY soldiers on peacekeeping duties on a planet that's recently been drawn into the conclaves fold and was torn by war beforehand. Lots of exploring, cleanup, and hunting down bandits, raiders, and remnants. And alien monsters. More of a personal focus on squad members and their lives.

>>95979762Think the Sci-fi might be more interesting/ Plausible since im not sure how you want to try to do a geopolitical simulator solo game. >>95979843Maybe.
The geopolitical stuff does involve painting many 2mm armies and tracking movements of corps/armies and ships/flotillas on a hex map.
>>95979863Yeah i guess it'd be more of a solo war game with rpg elements than a solo ttrpg. so whatever you think you want to try i suppose. both are cool ideas but its if youd rather play a war game or a squad of people with more character to them.
>>95979882Yeah. The larger scale conflicts would be less personal though there would be some focus on officers, especially generals, and on nation leaders.
The sci-fi squad might be easier

alright. So I got my cepheus solo game going.
>guy 1, some autist who joined the scouts and made a name quickly. His boss asked him to poke around and figure out what the other scout company was talking about with some super secret system. His snooping got discovered and to appease the Other Team(politics) he got canned. His boss, however, gave him a scout ship and some money and told him to investigate further.
>girl 1, stacy(SOC A) who made it through the scouts alright, learning a few engineering tricks here and there. Got fired under suspicions of corporate espionage.
>guy 2, big ex marine, always wanted to be a scout. quit as soon as he could, which was after gaining quite a bit of experience(4 terms) in the marines.
>girl 2, science type who has done well in the scouts. guy 1's boss paid her to join the expedition
guy 1 assembles the team and the head to this mysterious system nobody wants to talk about openly. on arrival, everyone wakes up(assuming tech level 10ish) and during system checks someone notices they have a large object in their cargo hold that wasn't planned. Guy 1 starts sweating balls and girl 1 freaks out. she checks it out with cool guy 2, who decides it's some failsafe data/sample return pod thingy, but nobody knows for sure. Seems reasonable since this is a company ship and the mission is somewhat important to at least one important guy. Guy 1 is entirely beat down by Girl 1's stacy-isms during all this(he's got SOC of 4) and Guy 2 has stepped in as a leader figure. Guy 1 is ok with this. Crisis resolved(or is it?) they move into the system and Girl 2 starts the system survey.
8 planet system, details don't matter to you. Most notable thing is an outer system gas giant has a weird sensor reading. Zeroing in, turns out theres a lifeboat in orbit! wtf, this is supposed to be an unexplored system. The crew(meaning guy 2) determines to plot a course for the planet and the lifeboat.
>>95981128>quit as soon as he could>4 termsSurely "as soon as he could" is the end of 1 term. I procrastinate a lot, but 16 years seems excessive.
>>95982659depends. the terran federations' mobile infantry cap troopers served a term of 2 years.
>>95983090Traveller/Cepheus terms are 4 years. Regardless of how long they are, 4 is not the smallest whole number greater than 0.

It happened, I arrived at the end of my campaign, Cal Arath and his people reached Castle Drogat, unmasked the evil Count, survived his dastardly tricks and battled him. Sadly, Udoh, the Wizard's servant couldn't stand the Count attacks, but the rest managed to destroy him and liberate Drogat. Cal not only gained a sizable reward, enough to complete the game's main objective, but even got a contingent of Drogat warriors to fight alongside him. Cal Arath reclaimed his rightful place as king of the Northlands. But he did not rest in his laurels, he knew the true battle was coming, he was preparing for the kingdom a complete tax reform.

>>95970244 (OP)I never jived with most basic yes/no good/bad gm emulators for most things. Ive found it much more intuitive to think in terms of more/less likely. come up with the most likely event and the more extreme the roll, the further the event breaks from that expected event. When I gm for others, I dont try to think what is good/bad for a character, but what is a believable outcome as an arbitrator. Unlikely events are the little exceptions that spice up the rule, the natural 20 for seeing a gold bulion in a bank already robbed clean, a dragon comming out of nowhere breaking the boat you are on in two.
I do this: d12
1-6 most likely event
7-10 unexpected, but understandable event
11-12 totally unexpected event
12+ second roll of a 7+ (1 in 24 chance) completely out of left field thing happens.

>>95997032Drifter and Star Drifter are two new takes on the Barbarian Prince premise. Some slightly different mechanics but similar enough that you could jump in easily. Drifter is a Western, Space Drifter is sci-fi.
>>95998068nta but I'd actually recommend against Drifter & Star Drifter.
Both take too much control out of the hands of the player to be fun.
Where as each event in Barbarian Prince ends with a 'What are you going to do' before you roll for response (Attack them, chat, ect), the Drifter writer decided, for god knows what reason, to make it so you random roll for your characters actions instead of deciding yourself..
So you could meet a rando prospector and just decide for shits and giggles to steal his boots rather than you deciding that's who you're playing.
It takes a lot of the fun and value out of it.
I think to some degree meta currency is necissary for solo one pc play, but i personally like the idea of two degrees of spending, one that simply mitigates/pushes a roll further, and one that cancels out a roll.
For example, in Scarlet heros, the defy death syustem, I think it would be nice if there was an alternative to just negating an effecrt by rolling your defy death die and taking damage. Like instead of full on paralysis, you get a slowed effect.

I have introduced a houserule for dnd5e.
A longsword has finesse, if being used two handed.
So one handed it is
+ proficiency + str bonus to hit
d8+ str bonus damage.
But use your other hand too
+ proficiency + dex/str bonus to hit
d10 +str/dex bonus.
This allows you to apply 'sneak attack' damage when using a sword properly, to mechanically reflect HEMA shit like the good ol Scarmaker etc. For the narrative flair. Now i can have far more dramatic 'fights' with my guy going into a bind 'vom tag' and getting in a cross guard strike to the enemies head. BAMF. Sneak attack secured. And i can parse out the mechincs and have a real swashbuckling time except more IRL historical than errol flynning.

>>96005174>>96005247>>96006038Thanks, guys. In the meantime, I've grown into the habit of playing B/X solo. I'll be putting out a sandbox hexcrawl for B/x for levels 1-to-9 followed by a series of dungeons on that setting. This will come with solo rules and procedures for B/X. (I'll probably put up some gameplay videos, currently painting some minis.) This will be called OCKVULT.
Next, I'll be putting out a sort-of porting of Warhammer 40k to B/X --but it's slightly different as a setting; for obvious reasons. I've started doing some reading on this including Rene Guenon, and some religious texts as well. (There's a long way for that.) So, it'll be B/X with sci-fantasy setting. This will be called OCKVLT: 1000 Suns.
Currently, I'm working on a retro-clone of Warhammer Fantasy Battles 2e in my native language. I'll try to promote the non-existent hobby here --with it I'll put out some youtube videos. I hope what I learn from doing that will help me put out better B/X solo videos afterwards.

>>96000201Session 2! Got another Clear with two level ups! Got lucky that I found the boss room right after I got the key.
>>96006610It can work but I feel like fluctuating things like inventory should be kept lower for a character in the page as you might always gain new traits for your character.
Also the character stats could work better in a long row or column if you ever feel like adding anything else down the line like luck or even trade skills. As for adding things in a long row like HP and AC it could work better if the number is under it and not next to it that but honestly that could just be my preference but it makes it easier to erase and replace or temporarely append something, unless of course you use ink to keep things like HP or STR on paper.
If you use this for simple short runs, sidekicks or more important NPCs (Characters) you can just disregard what I just said.
As for the NPC that's just fine, it's easy to read and get into the action, maybe use some commas for the stats.
Or just don't go down the path of perilous perfectionism like me and just play the game.
>>96010389ummmmm so far i want to incorporate the 2e book of humanoids to expand character race options, cause im not feeling the classics for a solo run :p
after that come the classes which should be ezpz like you said, cuz the damage dice roll over nicely
BUT i dont know about the + modifiers since SH lowers the "range" of to-hit and damage so far that ive seen
having a group of like five 2 HDs with a 4 HD baddie makes it dangerous to a big boy but i guess thats the point :p
so far the base 1e classes that ive read feat very neatly into SH and would require little to no tweaking
im sure i missed something vital and obvious, but theres a lot of pages to go through and gaygax writes kinda weird so its gonna take time to slog it xD
As a total n00b with zero RPG experience, where should I start my learning adventure?
I don't know anyone into gaming, so I figure Solo is the way to begin. I've been lurking around a bit, have read and generally understand Da FAQ, and I bought some dice too, so I think I'm ready to try my first game.
Any anons got advice or suggestions to share? I'd appreciate it much.
>>96011391Barbarian Prince is a good first shout. Someone who is new already gave it a pop further up the thread and they had a good time with it.
>>96011391Oh man, zero? You just have to get experience playing RPGs and overtime you'll learn what you prefer. Start anywhere with any game, get a taste of something and develop your opinion. Try reading some rule books and then try running a game. Oracles and GM emulators are like training wheels for me, very helpful when starting but limiting. But since you are new you'll appreciate having a structure that emulators give you.
>>96011391I started with maze rats.
>>96011391I'd suggest starting at one of the "extremes" of solo RPG play: either "writing with dice" or "board game with imagination".
I don't care for the former, but games like Thousand Year Old Vampire basically give you writing prompts to create a story. The "game" is just randomising and structuring the prompts.
The latter includes Barbarian Prince, Notequest, 2D6 Dungeon, Star Smuggler, and to some extent any RPG with dungeon and encounter tables. You can run them mechanically, but use things like word tables to inspire your imagination. Don't worry if your imagine gives you nothing; it just needs exercise. Once you're confident with the rules you're using, let your imagination overrule them. Get used to that and you should be be ready to try less structured adventures.
>>96011824>Oracles and GM emulators are like training wheels for me, very helpful when starting but limitingWhat do you use instead?
>>96011391A Thousand Year Vampire, its more a journaling RPG than a crunchy RPG and it holds your hand a lot if your willing to sit down and read. If you want something more freeform, quick and flexible try Artefact or Bucket O' Bolts by Jack Harrison. Those games will hold your hand less and you might be a tad lost if you don't have TTRPG instincts.
Oh, and don't be intimidated by the page count of Thousand Year Old Vampire, the majority of it is kinda a "choose your own adventure" where you roll, read a prompt, journal about it, then roll again.
>>96010724thanks for the feedback!
Yah, fluctuation elements that dont have a definitive end shuold be in places where expansion is possible. Thats why gear is at the bottom withuot a definitive end. Hypothetically in Scarlet heros traits are also not finite, but on the given sheet it is also religated to a space roughly the size of the ability score block.
Both the stat number being under the indicator and adding commas are both good ideas for legebility.
Scarlet heros is essntially OSR compatable, so I dont think ill need to add anything more to the stat block (fv is melee(fight) value and rv is ranged value, the two to-hit rolls you need to know)
pic related is the og character sheet. with it had a few things like movement.

>>96020874How do you decide which new hex you move if you don't see what's there beforehand? I'm assuming you don't because the hex next to the 3 towns isn't drawn in.
How does one start playing those things?
>>96021416It's sort of complex.
To explain it in the simplest terms. A character can devote time to researching and discovering what's in a given direction. They can ask NPCs what lies in a specific direction, or if there is something of interest in an adjacent hex. Most NPCs only know a certain amount of info based on their profession (A farmer knows the layout of his immediate hex, while a merchant may know everything along the road to the next town.)
Furthermore, it's possible to learn what's in a hex through simply exploring. You can learn everything that's in a hex by devoting an entire day to surveying the land. Also, if you have someone that's particularly skilled in wilderness travel (Like a ranger or a druid) there is a 1 in 6 chance that you get to learn of a landmark in the next hex for free, (if there is one.)

>>96013344I dunno if I'd call it "horror" exactly, it's more like blue collar sci fi. Easy enough to slip horror in though but AFAIK it doesn't explicitly have horror elements built in. its good though, has anything youd need to play in.
I got Retro sci-fi rules printed on Mixam for about 8 bucks, just came in the mail. really good quality, would recommend if anyone needs something printed. It's nice to have this because zozer only has big honking 9x11 books available on lulu.com, and they really don't need to be that big.
Also been printing some other stuff at home and putting it in a 6-ring binder with dot-lined paper in the back. Having things printed off has been really nice for focused playing
>>96023083Basically you roll up a character, a goal, and have a basic Oracle to resolve simple situations. During play, the daily travel procedures are set in order:
1. Roll for weather
2. Roll for getting lost
3. Roll for point of interest
4. Roll for encounter
Etc etc, however you can be as strict or freeform as you like, such as finding a settlement in step 3, rolling up all the details and deciding to stay for a few days rather than traveling or whatever. It works well as an all-in-one game with a notebook when on a plane or something. Lemme know if you want to see my after action report! I played three sessions this weekend.

>>95970244 (OP)What are people's favorite solo specific metacurrencies/ ways to make solo play viable as compared to usually cooperative games?
I really like scarlet hero's fray dice allowing you to attack more at lesser enemies and defyinging death die converting debilitating damage/circumstances into lesser damage.
Especially that later one I find interesting, converting stuff that would usually require a party to adress into a lesser penalty. I like it when there are in game consequiences instead of purely meta narritive bean counting. I want to try something like that, but instead of always converting into damage, it converts into a lighter more managable version of whatever the original effect was.
Instead of falling into a bottomless pit, you loose a turn as you grab a ledge, instead of being paralyzed, you are slowed, etc.
>>96027414Sounds like a meta currency that can make things one degree better/worse. Call it "nudgecoin™". Converts death into a serious injury, leg caught in an iron vice to leg caught in a rope loop, convert a near miss into a hit, or a hit into an exceptional hit.

1 nudgecoin™ allows you to go down one on the above scale, and you can only use 1 at a time. give 3-5 per session.

>have a basic Oracle to resolve simple situations. I don't know anything about Oracles. Can you refer me to one, or some resource on them?
>daily travel procedures are set in order:Oh, I see. The game will basically guide me through the steps for making decisions, telling me what's next. Like, it will tell me what to ask an Oracle, which will resolve it. Do I have that right?

Finaly encounter of scenario two for this character:
>>96012787A well known folk hero called "Imrie the Eyeless" was kidnapped by a cult dedicated to erodition and high culture. My character jessie alms but on his slueth cap and used his inquisitor training to track them down to their den in an exotic tea house. He was subtle enough to not alert them. They are currently trying to extract information about the local ruins and places of interest that Imrie has no doubt plundered, but she has stayed tight lipped so far. Lead by a Foppish dandy cult leader with a fencing blade and an exotic poison knife, two thugs in uncomfortable looking monkey suits flank him. and behind them all is a semi-functional golem the fop probably got on some sojourn to some distant land. it is up to Alms to free the Folk hero, escape, and possibly bring down this orientalist eyesore.

>>96027647The most popular oracle (I think) is Mythic GME, essentially it's a table/ resolution mechanic that allows you to play without a game master, or in this case emulate one. Some oracles differ in their mechanics but it's the same principle, you typically ask it a yes/no question, determine how likely it is to be a "yes", then roll. The oracle will typically say:
1. yes
2. yes and
3. yes but
4. no
5. no and
6. no but
If it's a "and" in this case, your "yes" also comes with an additional thing. Typically a stronger yes or something else happens. "Yes, but" can be construed as you getting your wish, but there is a caveat/downside. They're super interesting and there are a lot of them out there, even free. Solo games will come with them tacked on for the most part.
>Oh, I see. The game will basically guide me through the steps...In a way, though you don't have to follow it. As you can see, the requirements for running solo are pretty complex so there is a lot of systemic heavy lifting being done to get the mechanics to flow, such as in ironsworn (that game is free, I recommend watching Me, Myself, and Die on youtube to see that game in action). It can be hard to parse at first but once you understand it's pretty cool.

I really do think 1/2 inch movement blocks is a pretty perfect size for solo play since most areas can be represented on a piece of paper, but its not so small to be overly fiddily.

About to start writing, and I am still torn between writing it journal-style as if the character themselves are writing, or from a more omniscient perspective. What do you all think?
>>96039893I find writing as the character themselves makes twists easier.
It's not that you weren't telling the reader that the orcs aren't behind the attempted coup, its that your character didn't realize Lord Blackthorn Darkevillaine was up to no good.
Any superhero game for solo playing? I got the tables from City of Crime, and I wanna try to create some adventure like my 1930s radio serials.
>>96039912Think I should write it as the character's actual journal as if he's writing after the fact, or just make it a first person account?
>>96039893Try both and see which you prefer. I just use bullet points.
>>96040226First person account, journals can get convoluted in a 'Wow, that was fucking crazy, let me just take a minute while being hunted down by the rape-trolls to write down my experiences' kind of way.
A journal is always written in retrospect by someone who has gotten away safely, thus removing the tension of the moment unless you write it from the very end of things and go into gothic horror 'alive, but at what cost' territory.
>>96040337You aren't creative enough, you can easily write it in 2nd or 3rd person as a magical witness, like a sentient book or a magical being observing the player's character. Or it could be a spirit that has no sentience of its own but is bound by the user that has access to all of their thoughts and writes in the first person.
There are workarounds if you are willing to wave off things or explain them before starting.

The difference between the burnouts is that you need to work through and manage your work's burnout, but play burnout you don't too. Just find or do something else until you miss it again and gain inspiration. It's completely normal to pick up and drop hobbies in a person's life. >>96043950No he doesn't. that's retarded.
I've done both first person and 3rd person
1st person and prose-heavy was best for investment but abysmal for keeping a campaign going. getting locked up on "I just used this word 3 sentences ago" shit doesn't result in playing for me
3rd person prose-heavy was low investment and had the same drawback. 3rd person and terse was actually higher investment because stuff was HAPPENING very quickly. also with 3rd person I tend to play far more cruelly to the PC/s
I can't say I'm cool with saying any one of them is objectively the way to go
Anyone got system recommendations for a solo zombie apocalypse game? Ideally something for (mostly) one character. Ideally something that leans more into horror than post-apocalypse action.

>>96044184Continuing with Runes and Ruins: one thing I liked of this was by the its lean and laconic nature, I could add a lot of my own, for example, I added a trapdoor in a room of the dungeon that lead me to a basement with a monster in it, I didn't have a weapon because you use them to destroy the monsters and the only way to obtain one is rolling it when you enter a new room, so I was unarmed, a lightbulb turned on, I asked, is there a trap in this basement? Roll 4, yes (taking the simplest even=yes;odd=no), so I had my adventurer luring the monster to the trap, and the big brute fell for it. I got quite of gold, so the only I need now is one rune more so my adventurer can teleport to the nearest town. I'm thinking of making it less abstract, but perhaps that would take away the charm of this little game.
>>96043950>>96044314kek, I hate when I get the “gay” and “retarded” status effects.

>>96050263A simple way is to summarize generally what gets talked about. It's faster too. Or you can do what I did and study linguistics to learn the mechanics of dialogue. There's surprisingly very little to learn and it's easy to pick up.
>>96050384NTA, but what do you mean by the "Mechanics of dialogue" and how does linguistics play into it?

>>96047391I finished my brief Runes and Ruins session, my adventurer decided to go down the hole made by the monster, he ended up in an underground cave, with many chambers, almost got squashed by a stalactite-trap, crossed a river, fought a monster centipede, while winning runes and, more importantly, gold in the process. I deviated a bit from the original rules, but it was fun. During the fight there was a moment when the centipede lunged at my PC, with a strength of 5, it could've crushed him, but I rolled a speed of 6 and the adventurer avoided disaster. He found two keys that will be useful in another session, and a rune, which along with other two allowed him to return to the nearest town. I'm thinking of using a dwellings table to make the town more robust, a base of operations, if I can. Overall,it was fun. I enjoy of some degree of creativity, and I like narrating stuff. Nice to see how much you can do with two pages of rules.
>>96052505Is that game a one time experience since the cards are scratch off?
So, gpblin slayer TTRPG. I have an elf.
Considering either
Fighter 2, Ranger 1
OR
Fighter 1, Ranger 1, Shaman 1
To make use of elven racial skills
'Beloved of the fae'(cast spirit magic without a catalyst) and 'weapons:bows'.
BUT. I cannot see if I can cast spirit magic in heavy armour / metal armour.
I only see that if my class is JUST Shaman, i can't do it. Fighter SEEMS to allow me to cast and such in real armour, because I can wield that as 'proper equipment'...
But i can't find an exact ruling.
IS it munchkin as fuck if I just declare my character can wear armour (say chainmail) while wielding (longsword) and (longbow) with a tiny bit a shamanic spirit magic?
The game SEEMS to be built around allowing you to build 'custom' classes instead of set
>UGH DO THIS.
>>96052926Isn't it Sword World based? Classes are basically skills. Nothing about the fighter class affects your shaman abilities. If shamans can't cast in armour, no one can use shaman spells in armour, though you might be able to wear and fight in it.
>>96053439Dont worry. Found it. Instead of being in the class section, it was in the spells. Shamans can wear light armour and stuff. So as long as I dont put the elf in jeavy crap, its fine.

>>95970244 (OP)TTRPGs, specifically free ones but not necessary, that focus on Robots and Artificial Intelligence? I find that lots of sci-fi focus on giant robots and/or space travel at its core, which is fine, but I want to more explore a sci-fi world that is coming to grips with synthetic life.

also, as it is sword world derived, you beat the monster stats, you beat it. the GM does little rolling. and the entire game is in ONE A5 super manga omnibus edition sized volume. ONE book.

>>96056830If you know what you're doing you can play pretty much anything solo.
If you're asking this question you probably don't know what you're doing.
Traveller is probably easier - it has a lot of systems for generating stuff and procedures for common tasks. Also Zozer has a solo guide for it that covers a number of common campaign styles. Converting things from Traveller to D6 probably isn't hard but will take practise.
Womp Rats also exists if you want a few Star Wars themed D66 tables, which you probably do.
>>96056304that's the best thing about the game. you can uttrly ignore the manga. the tv show.
it does have cool mechanic through. fatigue. you have to try and fight smart. efficiently. unlike dnd etc where you're totally fine for 11hrs and 59 minutes on 1 hp. and then DING 12 hours ticks over and NOW you're exhausted and you just failed that save so now you're dead...
fatigue, attrition and wound mechanics are in the gobslay TTRPG. so if you try and just bumrush everything you're going to be buggered, when it's boss time. like IRL, you can't fight for hours constantly.
>>96056996I'll give it a try, thanks.

>>96056968Part of the reason i'm asking for SWD6 specifically is because Heavy Gear Bravo, which is a D6 conversion of HG4e, uses the SWD6 system. thats the best way imo to conceptualize solo gaming and get the most out of it. I think these things come more naturally with other people, so you you to synthetically remind yourself of these priorities when you are alone. Bend the rules if it means something is more interesting. Be fair when things dont go your characters way, dont cheat yourself, it never feels good. And finally, still try to win, just keep the first two in mind. that's what I have learned.
>>96061120I'd like to add: take your time to figure out how to play. Go slowly, there's no rush. Just make slow and steady progress, step by step.
>>96058053>What do i needThe simple but unhelpful answer is "practise". I know even less about Heavy Gear than I do about SWD6, which is already not much. And I've never heard of the other games.
You basically need GM advice and tools. Which starts with reading the rule book for your chosen game. I'd suggest just generating some PCs and NPCs and just running them through some scenario for each section of rules. Oh and locations. Don't worry about anything being good, just practise inventing shit and applying rules to resolve things. A dungeon crawl gives you a very basic structure for doing that repeatedly without much extra stuff getting in the way.
