All the smite hate is coming from back in the day when auric was the hardest difficulty and we didn't want it to be trivialized even further by strong CC (auric is easy as fuck for good players). But now that's not really a valid complaint because we have havoc 40 where strong CC like smite, shock mines and chorus are very common.
If you like smite you can keep using it all the way up to havoc 40. Only shitters who can't form their own opinions and are following hate bandwagons that left a long time ago.
