People who are worried about solo traveling tend to have such unrealistic expectations about what it's going to be. The truth is, you're probably not going to meet tons of people. You're probably not going to make meaningful or life long connections or even memories. A lot of your time is going to be alone. You are going to be eating meals alone. You will go the bar alone, drink your two beers and no one will want to talk to you. You will go back to your hotel alone. You will see groups of locals and travelers alike having more fun than you. If that reality sounds scary or boring you probably won't enjoy traveling alone.

The benefits are that you are in complete control of what, where and how you want to be. You are open to things and people that you otherwise wouldn't be if in a group. You will notice and see things you wouldn't if in a group. You won't be forced to spend money on things you don't want to.

Go somewhere nice, see the things you want to see. Do the things you want to do. Bring that book you've been meaning to read and it read it when the dark thoughts creep in. Be comfortable being alone. Be open to new experiences and new people, embrace it when it happens but don't pout when it doesn't. No one except you cares you're not having a good time.
