east coast city denizen who started playing mtg a few months ago. here are the demographics I observe at mtg events at my decently well-attended flgs:
>draft night
literally all white guys except one east Asian guy, a few surprisingly well-adjusted and successful looking people in their late 20s and early 30s mixed in with the obvious loser nerd types (one extremely nonpassing tranny, 5 o clock shadow... really good at Limited though)
>coommander night
you would not know that black people exist in this town if you only went to draft, but they show up for Commander in the form of nerdy black guys in their 20s and 30s. probably 10-25% of attendees are black guys. another notable thing about Commander Night is that, unlike draft night, women are there. I have white and Asian women, usually but not always with a date.
there are significantly more autists of the loud-dumbass type playing Commander. draft autists tend to be reticent.
I have never seen a black woman playing Magic. I am going to the EoE prerelease for noobs with a friend tomorrow, I wonder if I will see any.
