He already went through the reasons in his head just last chapter for why Yor leaving would ruin everything without figuring out a better way. There is no reason for him to say Nightfall had a point besides letting Axeman joke with her reaction. And it comes off even worse in a chapter where Yor is realizing what she feels.

To show that not only is there no throughline here, but that he's actively going backwards for no real reason. Would it really be a worse choice to have Loid reflexively stay committed to the bit? Maybe you want to correct the details for Axeman when he fails to sell his choices, but he's not consistent with showing Loid's character and that plays a large part in why there's a gap between how he views him and how his audience views him.
