There is no historical claim that Canaanites have outside of Canaan. Philistine was never a part of their historical claim, therefore they should not be indiscriminately killing the population of that country based on a rival religion that accurately portrayed them as evil which also came about during a plague, the same as theirs and their revisions on the tale of Marduk as Jesus, both entirely fictional characters and stories.
Across history Canaanites have represented the philosophy of stabbing your allies and comrades in the back to appease a fictional deity, and have always been portrayed as a blood thirsty human sacrificing cult. They were also the first to invent the idea that non-members of your country should be kept out and kept in a primitive state because they are inferior to your race, but since they descend from Africans, Jews, Canaanites have always had a bit of a quirk here
