If you want to make hypotheticals then you start with the fact that Tolkien was a linguist. That means that he knew that pre-christian anglo-saxons and nordics heavily associated with elven lore and the names of the upper castes such as warriors/champions/nobles/etc had the word "elf" in them. For anglo-saxons it would be Aelf and a name would be Aelfwine(elf friend) while for nordics it would Alfr and a name would be Alfhild(battle elf).

So according to this deduction tolkien considered elves to be white aristocracy/nobility/elite/whatever you want to call it, not all whites in general.

Of course he was a seething little christian man and so his fetish was that a perfect noblewoman would be a whore who loses her noble status/immortality to sleep with low status hobo. You can see the same kind of christian but in less subtle form in the game dragon quest where an immortal noble mermaid kills herself because a literal who peasant fisherman retard couldnt marry her.
