I'm not entirely convinced of this. I think that a major appeal of the game would be picking out your AWACS operator, so you can listen to their voice while playing. The player needs to be an actual high-ranking officer, which would be present inside the AWACS plane.

That goes without saying. As many F-16s as AC8 has F-15s, and then multiply that by 10x.

Hence why the player is inside the AWACS plane, but he's not the radio operator. He's the mission commander.

The player being AWACS just has too many inconsistencies with how they are portrayed in the series. You can't give the role of the character that talks the most to the player, who's supposed to be silent.
