7 was not ambitious. The mechanics were standard Ace Combat fare. As far as gameplay was concerned, nothing about it was new or upgraded when compared to its predecessors. Squad mechanics from 5 were gone, open-area battlefield mechanics from 6 were gone, everything from Assault Horizon was gone (for better or for worse), and apart from the massive upgrade in graphical quality, it may as well have been Air Combat (and yes, I was actually around when this series was still called that). Whole thing was a regression back to 4 and its one-man wonder show.

Your idea is flawed, in the sense that there just aren't enough planes to keep going for too long. The gacha has to be the pilots. They have an associated plane that is fixed to them, but it's just a piece of equipment. For example, you could have a dozen different F-22 pilots, a handful for each variant, but would all be their own unique units.

For two-seaters, you could also roll for weapon officers like I said before, which could then be put into any two-seaters. And then, you'd also roll for AWACs crewmembers. This is good, because those are the only character with extensive voice narration, so you can hire cheap seiyuus for those roles, while the expensive ones only do the pilots(that have few lines).

So if assume the player is the mother/fathership, and it's a tactical game where you have to both accomplish the mission while also protecting yourself(using the girls to guard you), then things could be different depending on how they get injured/destroyed/shot down.

For example, if a girl is shot down while far away from the player's mother/fathership, while trying to do a mission objective. That would be one thing.
But if they are shot down near you, while protecting you. That'd be something else entirely. The more yandere-minded girls would actually GAIN affection/intimacy points for self sacrificing to save you. Meanwhile, girls that you haven't raised affection/intimacy points with would outright refuse to perform reckless commands, like throwing themselves in front of a cruise missile going towards the player.
