If I'm allowed to spread further hearsay, most alternative ideas I hear seem to lean more towards some kind of fantasy version of Professor X's tech chair from the '90s cartoon. Something that bypassed the whole issue of needing ramps by just letting them fly around at will under their own power. I've seen other suggestions like epic mounts, steampunk inspired ridable golems or robotic spider-leg contraptions, but it usually comes down to something that lets them travel the world without needing the special considerations a wheelchair sometimes brings to the table.
