for us it's as much about our finances as how we want to live our lives and how and where we'd want to raise our children. It might sound petty but between our current assets and incomes we'd be able to get a much larger home and furnish it a lot nicer than we could staying in or around a city. We don't see the point of working our asses off for 20+ years just to pay of a shitbox. When we can buy a home in a depopulating area for 50k or less and then put all the money we'd otherwise put into said shitbox into making it just as we want it. Plus it's a lot easier getting planning permission out there because the local governments are desperate for young people with kids.
