If you tell a ranged unit to attack someone they won't chase after them. If you tell melee units to attack I think they won't chase after a melee unit they engaged? Kinda makes me think it'd be cool if there was that chance of more irregular/untrained guys to go "Fuck your orders" and chase after an enemy that routs. So you have to worry about being too successful and a break in your line forming.
