As always, it's a little bit of everything.
It already started to go wrong under the previous owner (Jean-Michel Aulas). He ran that club for 30+ years, and did some amazing things in that time. But towards the end of his tenure stuff already started to go wrong in terms accruing debt and poor performances/decisions.
But what really set things in motion was COVID hitting at exactly the wrong time. No European football, curtailed football season, flagging transfer income, Ligue 1 broadcasting stuff. And of course incoming transfers going wrong more often than not.
Now if Textor was more canny an operator he would have steered the ship out of these perilous waters, but at every turn he just acts like a buffoon and makes things worse it seems.
