Have to remember even HQ/Elite/Troop/Fast/Heavy split was a change from 2e, where we just had Character/Squad/Support. With some army based variations, like IG having their own platoon formation armies were built on. It's a shame they went with such obtuse markings, when there was plenty of symbols used even in 30k that could've been used to mark the different units.
