In our case, the supreme court has seized powers well above the scope of what the judiciary ought to have. 10 years ago, most Brazilians did not know what the Supreme Court was. Today, everyone knows their names and have favorite and most hated judged. Because these guys are on the news, every single day.
The judge cited on that article, Alexandre De Moraes, has become miniature dictator in the country. He has personally persecuted entities and individuals who spoke against the court's power, in really strange trials where he simultaneously took on the role of the Victim, Witness, Prosecutor, Judge and Jury, all at once.
I just wish we had the Empire back.
