In my opinion, goths dress more flamboyant and cooler with white face paint, black dresses and teased hair. Emos dress more casually, with dark shirts, pants and or skirts, with some added bits of style with chokers and other accessories. Although there isn't a hard rule as the two styles intermix. If you can't tell, you can just ask the person in question :3
