The first nation leaves NATO. Canada formally announced its intention to leave the military alliance that it had joined in 1949. The The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) is a professional volunteer force, with active personnel numbers around 63,500 and reserve personnel around 22,500. Though small, Canada's wealth has meant that her military is armed with modern weaponry. Canada leaving NATO is another sign to Europe that she truly is alone.
